Chile, to date, is one of the 48 countries to have agreed to a continuity agreement which will ensure continuing free trade between the UK and Chile, whatever the outcome of our departure from the EU. Chile has had a free trade agreement with the EU since 2003, which the UK has benefitted from as an EU member state. In the context of Brexit, if the UK agrees on a post-Brexit free trade deal with the EU, the UK-Chile continuity agreement will most likely not be necessary. However, if no progress is made on a UK-EU trade deal, it is reassuring to know that UK-Chile trade will be unaffected. Whatever post-Brexit scenario the UK finds itself in, UK companies will be able to reap the benefits of trading freely with one of South America’s most prosperous nations.
